The 2012 XJ is a 4-door, 5-passenger luxury sedan, or luxury sports sedan, available in 6 trims, ranging from the XJ to the XJL Supersport. The 2012 XJ's closest competitors include the Audi A7, the Infiniti M, and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Upon introduction, the XJ is equipped with a standard 5.0-liter, V8, 385-horsepower engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 23-mpg on the highway. The XJL Supersport is equipped with a standard 5.0-liter, V8, 510-horsepower, supercharged engine that achieves 15-mpg in the city and 21-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
